UEL professor steers House of Lords committee on affordable childcare

Helen-Penn---newsThe University of East London’s Professor Helen Penn is one of a group of experts helping to inform the new House of Lords Committee on Affordable Childcare, chaired by Lord Sutherland.

Drawing on her work for UEL’s International Centre for the Study of the Mixed Economy of Childcare (ICMEC) Helen described key features of the private for-profit childcare market, which provides more than 80 per cent of childcare places and more than 40 per cent of nursery education places. Professor Helen Penn is co-director of UEL’s International Centre for the Study of the Mixed Economy of Childcare. This is a multi-disciplinary centre, involving economics, business studies, and the private sector, as well as early childhood specialists.
